Resource Stars — Mother and the Source of Learning

Resource generates the Day Master — mother, teachers, credentials, benefactors. Its function is to nourish the self.

What Resource Stars Are

Resource stars (印星) = "what generates the Day Master" — external nourishment of self. Classically, "what generates is mother" — so 印 symbolizes nurturers: mothers, teachers, schools, benefactors, credentials.

By polarity:

• Direct Resource (正印): opposite polarity. e.g. 甲 sees 癸 water
• Indirect Resource (偏印, also "Owl God 枭神"): same polarity. e.g. 甲 sees 壬

Direct Resource — Conventional Nourishment

Direct Resource is the warmer image — orthodox education, maternal love, school nurturing. Person is sheltered, learned, principled — suits scholars, teachers, traditional-profession specialists.

Clear, well-placed → high education, benefactors plentiful, attentive mother. Damaged by wealth (财 controls 印) → weak maternal bond, blocked study path.

Direct Resource = "regulated learning" — traditional institutions, credentials, qualifications.

Indirect Resource — Independent Learning

Indirect Resource is cooler — independent study, esoteric knowledge, non-mainstream paths. Person dives into specialised or unconventional fields — suits researchers, mystics, psychotherapists, niche consultants, independent scholars.

The concern: Owl-Resource eating the Eating God (枭印夺食). When 偏印 is strong, it controls 食神. Since 食神 = "talent, longevity, daughter (for women)", excess 偏印 means "blocked talent, weak daughter bond, reduced fortune".

So strong 偏印 without 财 to control it must be watched.

Resources Save the "Weak Day Master"

A weak Day Master (low strength) most loves resource — it nourishes the self, the chart's rescue:

• Weak DM with 印 → dayun in 印 land brings major support
• Weak DM without 印 → wealth/officer pressure compounds harm

So "where is the resource?" is a key question for weak-DM charts.

Resources and the Study Years

In the study years, resource status determines academic success:

• Annual 印 supporting → exam fortune, study smooth
• Annual 财 controlling 印 → study disrupted, mother worries

Students' charts often have 印 as the "study star" — useful for timing when to focus.
