Specially-Prosperous and Follower Patterns — Going with the Flow

If one energy is extremely dominant or the Day Master is extremely weak, rules invert — going WITH the flow is auspicious; against it, ominous.

What Special Patterns Mean

Special patterns are charts that don't follow standard strong/weak reading. Their yongshen logic INVERTS — they need to "go with the flow".

Two main classes:

• Specially-Prosperous Patterns (一行得气格): one energy is overwhelmingly dominant (80%+), Day Master must match it
• Follower Patterns (从格): Day Master is extremely weak (no root, no support), the self "follows" the dominant other-energy

Special patterns occur in ~5-10% of charts. Most are standard. But IF a chart is special, reverse rules MUST apply — or the reading is wrong.

Five Specially-Prosperous Patterns

By dominant element:

• Crooked-Straight (曲直): wood — 甲乙 DM, spring month, three-harmony 亥卯未 or three-meeting 寅卯辰, no metal
• Blazing-Up (炎上): fire — 丙丁 DM, summer month, harmony 寅午戌 or meeting 巳午未, no water
• Sowing-Reaping (稼穑): earth — 戊己 DM, four-storage 辰戌丑未 all visible, no wood
• Reform Metal (从革): 庚辛 DM, autumn, 巳酉丑 or 申酉戌, no fire
• Moistening-Downward (润下): 壬癸 DM, winter, 申子辰 or 亥子丑, no earth

When conditions met, the chart "rides the wave" — favourable dayun go WITH the dominant flow; against it is severe.

Five Follower Patterns

By force followed:

• Follow Wealth (从财): weak DM, wealth dominant 50%+ → favour wealth + output, avoid companion + resource
• Follow Officer/Killer (从官杀): weak DM, officer-killer dominant → favour officer-killer + wealth, avoid output + companion
• Follow Children (从儿): weak DM, output dominant → favour output + wealth (and companion as flow-feeder), avoid resource + officer
• Follow Force (从势): wealth + officer + output combined 75%+ → favour all three
• Follow Strong (从强): companion + resource 80%+ → favour those, avoid officer/wealth

Transformation Patterns — Day Master Reborn

Transformation patterns are different — Day Master participates in a heavenly-stem five-union AND truly transforms:

• 甲己 → earth: 甲 day or 己 day, month branch is earth (辰戌丑未) or fire (巳午), transformed element (earth) transparent, no wood
• Similarly: 乙庚 → metal, 丙辛 → water, 丁壬 → wood, 戊癸 → fire

If transformation succeeds, the original DM nature dissolves — the transformation element becomes the chart's center. Yongshen becomes the transformation element + what generates it.

Why Reversed Rules Matter

The MOST important point: special patterns use REVERSED yongshen rules vs standard patterns.

• Standard: strong drains, weak feeds
• Specially-prosperous: DM already strong, MORE strength is good — dayun in same-element land is auspicious; opposite element is ominous
• Follower: DM already surrendered, follow the dominant force — dayun in followed-element land is good; "supporting self" element becomes harmful

So a 甲 person with normal chart might thrive in a metal dayun; if they have 曲直格, metal dayun is severe. NEVER apply general rules to special patterns.

False Specially-Prosperous Warning

If a chart is close to specially-prosperous but missing one condition (wrong month, single counter-element present) — it's "false specially-prosperous", not to be read as true.

If you suspect special pattern, book a master consultation — special pattern judgment is subtle. Algorithms flag candidates; final judgment is human.

• From-Trend (从势格) additionally requires that Wealth, Officer, and Output forces be roughly equal — no single force exceeds 50% (otherwise it collapses into a single From-Wealth, From-Killings, or From-Child pattern).
• From-Strong (从强格) additionally requires no transparent Wealth star (if Wealth is transparent, it breaks the Resource and From-Strong fails). Both conditions come from classical pattern classification and are crucial to avoid misjudging a follower pattern.
